Thats easy..... the lower the number the thinner the oil is. Example.... 5 weight is thinner than 10 weight. In the cold winter you want to use thinner oil so it will flow better through your engine protecting the moving parts. 5 weight would be the best for this. For winter I use 5W 30 this means 5 weight until it heats up then it is 30 weight, heavier but will flow through the hot engine just fine. For summer I use 10W30. A little heavier 10 weight, but still 30 when the engine heats up.
