depending on the year,if its an older car that has a coil there is a prong on the coil for a tach,if its a newer car with a coil pack there are fuses attached to something in the coil pack to opperate the tach..

If you meen what does the tachomemer base the rpms off.That would be the rate of electrical pulses sent to sparkplugs.
