I have absolutly no idea of what I want to do in life. 5 people have told me i should a) audition for american idol or b) go into music, but I like technology, and computers. I like to act, I run the lights for my school's productions. I wanna do something that I like, but also has good money. I don't want to have to change careers later in life. Do you have any suggestions? Or advice? I really need the help!

First off, you do have some idea. Watch your language. Your language both creates and destroys your world. Don't take what you say for granted.

Second off, you will certainly not be able to work for the next 40 to 60 years without changing your career so work on developing as many transferable skills as you possibly can. To have a good and prosperous career, you are going to need all of them.

Third, think about the problems that exist in the worls that you want to contribute to solving. This is a good place to start when think about career choices.

Fourth, don't underestimate others suggestions and what your gut is telling you. Given your interests, in entertainment and technology there are tons of opportunties out there for you. So many that your confusion could be caused by too many choices not too few.

Fifth, get a copy of "What Color Is Your Parachute" by Bolles, read it and practice what it says.

Sixth, find every person you know who works in either entertainment or the technology fields and seek opportunities to volunteer, internship and work to gain exposure, experience, skills and network.

Good luck.

Auditioning for American Idol is a nice thought, but honestly only a select few make it through, and then when it all comes down to it, only 12 make it through to the finals. It is always worth a try, but I would definitely try to have something to fall back on and your thoughts about technology and computers sound like something worthwhile to go into. My suggestion: Why not both? Best wishes and prayers =)

Not advice just a fact. The average person changes their career 7 times in their life. Plan but enjoy the ride.

its so easy for others to say what "you" should do, but lets face it, they will not be the ones doing it.
Whatever you choose to do, in every profession there is certainly an opportunity to climb the ladder and if you reach the top, you will reap the rewards you desire.
