Sometimes you have to take a lower paying job just for the experience in the field of your choice. With the experience comes the money.

Communications jobs that are entry level typically do not start out at 40K. PR and Marketing are common careers in which individuals with Communications careers pursue.

However, you have been working in a different career path than your education. To switch back to the career in which you studied in school you may have to take a pay cut.

If Communications is where your passion lies and is where you want to seek your career I would suggest you put together a Functional Resume. This will highlight your skills and downplay your work experience.

Remember it takes years to become a SME in the field of your choice. Communications is a great field to be in but like any other requires you to spend your time learning the business. After you spend you time in the trenches you will be rewarded.

You need to ask yourself a question...did you go to college and get a degree in Communications to be a Retail Store Manager? What is the career path and salary expectations for a Retail Store Manager?

Don't pick a career path just because that is what you studied in school. Pick a career path where your passion lies. You will always be the best when you enjoy your work and career.
