I have several superstitions, mostly surrounding my job (I'm a paramedic). When I hear the tones go out for an emergency call, I chant the call signs of the other ambulances on duty, in the hopes that the next thing I hear over the radio will be one of those call signs, and not mine! Whenever I talk about my workday is going, I knock on wood, and I will actually get angry at someone for saying those dreaded words "it's quiet today", because right after they utter those words, we will get called out to something awful like a 10 car pileup on the interstate.
