You plug your coax cable/Ethernet cable into your cable modem, then ethernet out from there into your wireless router. You then go from your router to a system that is plugged in physically to the router to set up your configuration (secutiry, etc). Once you have that done, you can keep putting new systems on your network wirelessly, including the system you used to configure the router.

Pickup a Ethernet Wireless Router. They are perhaps $50 at Best Buy, Circuit City, or Fry's. Netgear tends to be the easiest to follow the instructions, but they are all so simple. (look at the 614 from Netgear for example)

The DSL modem you have already will plug into the new Wireless router, and then your PC will plug into one of the 'LAN' ports on the new router. Everything will work fine, AND you'll now have a new wireless network ready to connect to any wireless laptop that requests connection. Very simple.

Note: You CAN buy a single unit that includes the DSL modem BUT that will put you into a screaming match when you ask for service from your telephone provider. They REALLY like to know that the modem is a box provided by THEM. It becomes very frustrating if the service fails and you need to troubleshoot. Stick with a product like the WGR614 to keep it clean.

Let me get this right. You just got high speed connectivity through dsl and you want wireless connectivity through out your house.

First of all you will need a wireless router

Then you need to get wireless card for your desktop or laptop

You might not need the card for your laptop if you have a newer model.

Once you have those components, just follow through the setup instructions. Connect phone line to provider dsl box. Connect a line from the dsl box to your wireless router. Setup the computer to talk to the router and then you are done.

Are you familiar with the Thomas Registry. That was how you found businesses and it required going through volumes of books. Now you can do a search in a minute and are impatient if it takes longer. The computer is a powerful tool Of course it is also a porn cesspool but ain't that the way it always is Porn and science seem married like war and technology

In order for wireless internet access to be useful, you will need to have more than one system in your household - or at least more than one system that will connect to the internet within a radius that the wireless signal can reach. If you only have one PC, getting wireless is pointless. You will still have to have at least one wired connection.

Hi. DSL works over your telephone line and uses a modem. You need a cable from your PC to the modem.
