I witnessed this phenomena during six years in the Navy where health care was "free". When there is no expense or cost barrier many people choose to utilize health services far more frequently. In some cases a doctor was being sought for routine aches & pains, & simple cold symptoms. In addition having all meds w no cost associated would inevitably lead to abuse of numerous varieties, including black market trafficing of meds.

The cost of this excessive use is not factored in when estimating budget requirements for UHC.

If it's free I want every test possible would be the refrain from some.

An ancillary challenge would be continuing to draw quality individuals to commit the time & effort required for physicians & other professionals if the reward (pay) is reduced to make UHC more feasible.
