It just seems to me that guys don't have any use for nipples. Not that I don't think that guys should have nipples or anything.

The difference between a man and a woman is a lot smaller then you think. A LOT.

Take, for example, the Olympics. Perhaps it goes without saying, but men are not permitted to compete in women's Olympic events. To prevent this from happening, committees are formed to determine if each particular athlete who is competing in a women's event is, in fact, female.

It didn't take too many of these committees to run up against a curious problem. There was pretty much no definition of 'woman' that all the athletes it was generally agreed were women would meet but that no men met. Let me repeat that: there is pretty much no easy way medically to differentiate between a woman and a man.

Think about it. At first they just used the presence of developed breasts. But some men with hormonal difficulties have breasts, and some women likewise do not have significantly developed breasts. Other forms of external genitalia suffer from the same kinds of problems. After that, the committee looked for two X chromosomes, but some few men have two Xs as well! Currently, the Olympics tests for a gene on the Y chromosome, and even so about one in every 500 athletes comes up with a weird result.

Biologically speaking, there isn't really much point to making one gender vastly different from another except for mating and the like. There are three distinct hormonal surges which cause proper development of sexual characteristics, and an oddity in any one of them can cause a variety of strange, lifelong results. What EXACTLY is it that makes a man a man and a woman a woman? There's a lot more hazy area in the middle than most people prefer to think!

So the reason that men have nipples is to nurse their young with milk. Just because YOU don't produce milk, it doesn't mean that other men don't!

Mainly, guys have nipples because women have nipples. All embryos (the developing fetus) start out as female. Gender becomes determined around six weeks of development as a result of hormone "baths," triggered by the genetic character of the cells' chromosomes. So, the basic physiological structures are initially there, with the hormones released around the sixth week of development determining whether an embryo will develop female or male characteristics.

Nipples in men have no specific purpose, but can be very responsive to sexual stimulation. Nipples (in both men and women) are filled with many nerve endings and can be quite sensitive. They can be an erotic area (or erogenous zone) for both women and men and respond to sexual touch and stimulation. Breasts are one of the defining structures that identify all mammals in the animal kingdom, and nipples occur in both the female and male of the species. It is interesting that in the higher mammals more closely related to humans — bonobo apes, chimpanzees, and gorillas, for example — nipples are quite prominently developed in the male.

Hope this information helps!

I think it's something to do with every fetus starting out as a female and later on they develop into males, so the nipples would be there and the male genitals develop last.

haha good question. heres my good hypothisis:
in the early stages of development, male and female humans are anatomicaly identical. (along with fish, reptiles, and most other animals- everybody looks the same- even between species!) genitalia is basically the same as well. so while the mammory glands develop in the female, the male's....don't. but the nipples are still there.

my science teachers always told us that everyone born is made female and before birth if there is a high rise in test. you normally become boys. So in general the body just naturally develops nipples, just in case ^^

They just do. Thats how we were made. We'll never know why we have them, but we do. I've heard some guys get off if a girl touches, or sucks on that area. It can be sensitive sometimes.

We are are mammals and men can excrete milk if prolactin levels are rasied. Pay attention in your biology class.
