I need to reset my computer for my daughter. I can't seem to locate the restore disc, but the D drive has everything. How do I reset the C drive to be the? I am going to be giving it to my 11 year old so I just want to strip it down and she can put her programs on it.
Thanks

It has Windows ME and I can't find the CD. That is why I want to use D: drive instead. But I don't know how. All that info is on D: drive, but I don't want to pay someone to do it.

Which operating system does she have?
If its Windows XP,you need the CD, Just pop in the CD and reboot. When rebooting the machine will detect your CD and will say to press any key to enter CD options (which you do) Its very easy just follow the instructions. Format the c:/ drive then setup windows xp on it.
dont worry your d: drive wont be formatted,.. that's it.

If your machine doesn't recognize the CD when rebooting, do the following;

Reboot, press "Delete" key or which ever key it is to enter your Bios. It could be "F1" depending on the make,.. but usually its "Delete".

Once you enter you bios, go in you Parameters and look at your "Boot sequence" you will see 1st boot, 2nd boot etc,.. make sure your 1st boot is the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM (whichever has the CD in it) Exit and save. reboot.

If its Windows 98 and older, just reboot in dos, type c:/format c:
then press enter. Then it will say are you sure then you type y,
that's it.
good luck!

Don't have to reformat to "strip it down" or "reset" this computer.
If you have enough knowledge of Windows, you can clean it up enough to keep the Operating System on the machine. Google 'Windows ME Tweaks' to find some useful info.
