I agree that few people would want that, but it's not impossible. There would have to be major amendments to our constitution, particularly in the area of property rights. However, if enough people want it, it could be done.

Democracy (literally "rule by the people", from the Greek demos, "people," and kratos, "rule"[1]) is a form of government. Today, the term democracy is often used to refer to liberal democracy,[2] but there is no necessity that democracies be liberal (i.e. respectful of individual liberty and property) and in some cases may be illiberal democracies. There are many other varieties and the methods used to govern differ. While the term democracy is typically used in the context of a political state, the principles are also applicable to other bodies such as intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, grassroot organizations, labor unions, industry trade groups, professional bodies, and learned societies.
i am distressed by the way life is changing for us all. things do not seem to be getting any better, in fact all i can see is that it is getting worse. Poverty, hunger, wars, reality TV, fast food greed, globalisation of brands, the ineptitude of governments, the weakness of the United Nations, the hatred of human against human, whether it is religion or race or colour of their skin. After centuries, the human is still a stupid beast that does not learn from the mistakes of the past. We live our lives in self contained bubbles, in a culture of fear, consumerism and false hope. We watch and read media drivel that is manipulated and censored, we are told what is important, we are not fully informed to what is really going on around us. We follow the herd, like sheep to the slaughter, believing everything and nothing. we are not living in a free society, we pay taxes on everything we need. We are forced to work in inane and ridiculous jobs that only serve the needs of those who always want more money and power,we work, to pay the bills and buy the things that in reality we do not really need... but when is enough truly enough? why do these faceless people (who are in charge of the world's business and possibly governments as well) always want more? why do they feel the need to fill the world with corporate branded product? why do they want the power? what will they do with this power? why do we tolerate this? why do i tolerate it? why do you?

It already has. Most of our media are controlled by 5 men with interests not in line with the US people. We have a democratic republic in theory but in practice it is a plutocracy (rule by the rich) disguised as rule by corporations and ultimately is a rule by corrupt fraternities and cults started by russia during the cold war. If you think we won the cold war I invite you to examine the history of our space program, our social programs, our privacy and civil rights. Try reading the text of the "patriot" act and recent defense authorization acts. Remember ONLY THE END MATTERS. Pay no attention to the excuses people give you for passing this bill or that bill. The ultimate question is "If one day I find that my nation has been infiltrated by a bunch of commies and sociopaths is this law going to make it easier or harder for me to live and live free or get out." You will find that almost every law being passed of late has one clause or another that forces you to answer NO.
Oh yeah, the answer to your question as asked is yes. But PLEASE, if that is what you want go to europe. The world if full to the brim with socialist nations and has no libertarian nations. Even the USA no longer qualifies as libertarian as it once did.

Our country is supposedly based on Government by the consent of the Governed. So if a majority wanted to change to socialism they could elect socialist politicians who could convert the country.

Yes, if enough people would vote them in into the office. In Miami you have the Communist party running for office, but they never win anything.
I do not see large number of voter voting in favor of socialism though.

If enough people agreed and there were enough votes to change the Constitution, sure. I doubt it would happen, but technically we could if we wanted to.
