Mississippi always votes Republican in national elections. In the deep south, for the most part, both Republican and Democrats are conservative to one degree or another.

Bo-Weevils Rule? Actually, there is no real difference in a Southern Democrat and a Republican, until recently. There are a lot of people that are poor and without health care in Mississippi, especially elderly and retired. Republicans want to cut the entitlement programs, and the Democrats want to keep and increase the entitlement programs.

Because absolutely no one cares about the state of Mississippi would be my first guess. I mean, does anyone every say "You know what? I'd like to go visit Mississippi." (other than the slew of casinos on the Gulf)

Because with Mississippi being the poorest country in the nation, that translates to people who for whatever reason cannot or will not take responsibility for their own lives. That is the base of the Democratic party, poor people who look to the Democrats to give them more free stuff. The sad thing is, the poor people don't realize that the Democrats don't have their best interest in mind, they just want to keep their vote.

Because Black people are frightened if they vote Republicans back in, lynching will be legal again.

That's my guess.
