Most people have lost their ability to have fun! They are letting the stress of everyday B.S. get to them and they need to be taught to let it go and laugh again.
Life is to short to be so up tight all the time.

Sometimes things are actually serious issues, but if you were talking about how you were joking and others reply in harshly unhappy, it is possible they didin't understand or were offended by what you mentioned or said to them. it depends on the topic and who you talking to and how you said it.
