Just think (I know no one wants to think of the bad things) but if something happened to him suddenly and tragically, that business goes into court and you never know how long that could take. I'd re-ask your question in the legal matters category.

You should think that one through thoroughly before you go there. If you KNOW your husband is reliable and your relationship is strong, you might work it out...if you don't -- you're asking for a load of trouble. If he is unreliable and/or won't pay bills, they can collect from YOU for what HE buys. You are equally responsible if you are a part owner of the business. If at some point you consider divorce, he can make things very difficult for you in just that way. I've seen it happen, to a very nice young lady, who suddenly had over THREE MILLION in debt and the debtors chasing her! And honey man was no where to be found. So guess who got all the harassment, subpoenas, and lost her house and car?

My husband owns several companies (started small and expanded) and I am his legal spouse for one, living in a community property state. Then he made me the Vice President of the corporation for another reason that he calls "Just Because". Probate would be your only hitch. Get legal advice about avoiding probate when accidental deaths occur. Good Luck!! @8-)

My sisters husband owned a business with someone. He got very ill and the partner ended up screwing my sister out of millions. Make sure that you have an attorney do whatever it takes to proctect yourself in case something happens to him.

Yes, do this, if something happens to him you'll have trouble dealing with the business affairs. It's only right to do this. I added my wife to ownership status when i married her. We later divorced and that was a mess, but we managed to settle it equitably.
It is in yours and his best interests to get your name on everything.

Definitely. First of all you're already co-owners according to the law. So why not have your name on it? Second, he should be proud to have you on the business license, checks, etc...
