-4(z+3)-2(z-2)
= -4z - 12 - 2z + 4
= -6z - 8

6(x-4)+2(3+x)
= 6x - 24 + 6 + 2x
= 4x - 18

a) 4(z+3) = 4z+12; then:

-2(z-2) = -2z+4

so 4z+12-2z+4= 2z+16 or 2(z+8)

b) 6x-24+6+2X=8X-18 or 2(4x-9)

For the first, -4z-12-2z+4=-6z-8
For the second, 6x-24+6+2x=8x-18
