Olive Oil is a straight up hussy. She was constantly getting popeye into fights through flirting with bluto. Olive Oil was far too selfish to even know what love is. Popeye's story is a sad one and i'm not sure he ever saw peace in his life. He only has his toe rag of a girlfriend to thank for this.

That's funny, I always wondered that too. No, I think she was willing to be with whomever was there at the moment. Says a lot about the thinking at the time, doesn't it? Way back when Popeye was first introduced in the newspaper strip Thimble Theater, Olive and her brother Castor (and her parents, Cole and Nana, and her uncle Lubry Kent) had been ongoing characters already for quite a while. Nah...She was definitely the flirty type and often was found batting her eye lashes at Brutus' muscles...
It was only when he got a bit rough with her, did she then see that Popeye was more sensitive and more of a knight in shining armour who would come to her rescue the minute she called..
Talk about keeping the poor guy on a string...But then I guess she kept them both on a string didn't she!

No, but she was infatuated with him. Popye didn't make any money, so there goes the theory that Olive was a gold-digger. He is a nice guy who was a little rough around the edges. She needed him to constantly protect her in order to feel her own self-worth due to her terrible singing voice, her lack of breasts and her chronic anorexia. Popey was a sucker that never got any from her, hence the big forearms.
