The alternator rotors on that model also have a history of going bad. Same deal with the alternator brushes and regulator/rectifier. Buy a shop manual and a multimeter - the shop manual has instructions on how to test to see what your problem is.

If you need a rotor don't bother with a used one, it's probably bad too. Find a rebuilt one or buy a new one from Honda.

--Bob gave some good advice. The charging systems on those bikes had a lot of problems.
--The rotors were the # one problem.
--Make sure that the brushes are within specs (length) and the springs aren't worn out.
--Clean the rings on the rotor with "contact cleaner" and a "scotch brite" pad. The brushes dirty up the rings and make a bad connection. Start the bike and press a pencil eraser against the rings to see how dirty they are.
--I think I mentioned this once before. Make sure the cover isn't damaged from a fall. That will throw the brushes out of alignment.

Maybe the stator you replaced was bad or going bad. Where did you get it? If you got it at a junkyard it probably was a bad one. Try getting one off a bike that don't have a charging problem. I'll ask my boyfriend, he knows everything!
