The metric system. often called the mks system, uses the meter, kilogram , second as their major units. This system is used by most nations with the notable exception of the USA.

The USA uses the IPS system or inch, pound, second system.

The metric system is based on the number 10, whereas the IPS system is based on different numbers such as 12 and 16. The metric system is much easier to work with and is used by all scientists, physicists, engineers,etc.

The METRIC SYSTEM is the simplest method of measuring and comparing measurements. In the metric system, units are divided by equal parts of 10's.
What makes this system so confusing is trying to convert from the old ENGLISH system which uses Pounds, Ounces, Cups into units that are comperable to Metric.

Mega=*1,000,000
Kilo=*1000
Centa=*100
Deca= *10
UNIT - 0
deci= .1
centi= .01
mili=.001
micro=.000001
The metric system allows for a more PRECISE measurement scale which is commonly needed in scientific studies.
