I lived in Liverpool for 20 years and never had any proplems, was never mugged pick pocketed or anything else so dont listen to all the negative comments. They are so old and dont reflect the city at all as the crime rate is less than in alot of other cities.

Classy places are around Victoria St, like Living Rooms etc. The Albert Dock is another nice area for drinks and meals its where ths footballers go.

If you are lookin for something a bit more relaxed head for Wood St there are tons of bars and it leads to another area called Concert Square which will be packed. You will have a good laugh here, its very central and you will have many different places to choose from with different kinds of music from cheesy to dance.

Have a great time Im going back there this wkend and I will be headin to the Wood St area.

if you want a nice place to go drinking go down hardman street, the bars are really small and cosy and the music is better plus it isnt full of under age kids cos its a little bit more expensive, also try seel street this has places like heebie jeebies and la'gos on it both are good bars.
In the day the shopping is good but they are digging up the town centre awlfully i would reccommend going to the docks as there is lots to do or going to the two cathedrals that are at either ends of hope street these are both really pretty and free to get into, if your interested in football then the grounds are a bus ride away and accesible in one trip and if you like the beatles then Matthew Street and the cavern are a must!
have fun and ignore the 'keep hold of your bag' comments turst me im not a scouser so im not fiercly proud and i think your safer here than you are in most other cities just avoid dark alleys and walking too far out of the town, the same as u would in any city

Live in Liverpool all my life, I am not a Chav as some of the bigots on this site have made out that we all are.

Don't worry about crime levels either I have never had anything stolen, there is always going to be crime anywhere and any City you go to so just be careful.

If you want a night out start on Mathew Street then work your way up to Concert Square and around those areas.
There is a lot of building work going on at the moment so a lot of the pavements are a bit crazy and the amount of one way roads they've instated drive everybody mad.
Go on the yellow duck tour that's an experience not to be missed you'll find that at the Albert Dock where you also have to have a nose around.
Research events that are on and also expect alot of students!!! Meaning cheap drink and nutters who aren't from Liverpool!

Everybody in Liverpool appear to be friendly don't hesitate to ask anybody for any help, if you find yourself in trouble simply get out of the way, or stand by a bouncer, there is always a massive police presence especially at night so there's never much trouble.
Just enjoy yourselves!

The Beatles Museum is a great place to visit, There is also the Magical Mystery Tour Bus that takes you on a tour of all Beatle related sites around Liverpool. The Odeon was a great place to watch movies, and it was once a place the Beatles played, or so I was told. I stayed in an old pub/hotel not far from the National Express Coach Terminal which was quaint, reasonably priced, great breakfast. Overall I had no problems there, but I pretty much kept to myself and just went about my business. Have a great time. Wish I was going again but Australia is just too far away. Hey but we have a suburb called Liverpool in NSW which is only an hours drive from me but it is not near as exciting as Liverpool, England. All the best :)

Expect a great night out! Liverpool is fab.

If you like things really lively, dancing etc head to Concert Square - loads of bars which stay open late

If you like pure cheese head to Matthew Street

If you want something more sophisticated try The Living Room and Newz bar near the Town Hall

If you want uber cool try the Albert Docks or Alma De Cuba which is near Seel Street

Nobody is being very nice and I feel bad for Liverpool. So here are a few nice things
The Tate Gallery
The new water front developments
The Liver building
Anfield
The ferry across the Mersey
The Beetles places - The Tavern

Just watch out for shell suits and big hair and people saying now then, calm down and alright!

Have fun!

Can we change the location? I'm going to HANDSWORTH for the weekend, any advice?

Now apply all the negative comments from above and re-apply.

All the 'snobs' (middle-class chattering classes) on here wouldn't dare say half the derogative things about an asian area would they? Why, Liverpool is seen as mostly a white city and, in their middle-class eyes, are OK to slag off. Hypocrytical

Firstly, everywhere is white here today with frost and its cold, tommorow (thurs) they have forcast -8 and snow. So going by that you will want warm clothing, warm comfy footwear is the priority. Must do the albert dock, duck boat, a ferry accross the mersey, beatles museum & tour, city centre, cathedrals, museums, footy stadiums if into footy. There is just too much too mention, loads lovely eating places too. Lots of good architecture and histor too, and loads pubs, clubs, of all description, massive & suberb for shops.
