Is this a question or just rhetorical ranting?

People keep quiet because they don't care enough to talk or have (metaphorically) had their tongues cut out.

Maybe part of the problem is that there are plenty of people that have had no significant change to their lives despite the quibbling of the two major US political parties. Check out why many Republicans say they are voting the way they do: "My life is fine so that's why I vote that way." Americans on average are not terribly deep thinkers. We are a shallow people. We want what we think is good for us and don't think much about others. That's how we vote. Americans also vote for the person they think will be the more attractive representative. Really, look at many of our elections: usually you could chalk it up to a male beauty pageant.

Given all that, I'm concerned what would happen if we managed to develop into a comlpete democracy where everyone could vote electronically on almost all decisions (assuming the process of creating and administering votes was honest, which of course is dubious in reality). I think most Americans are irresponsible with their votes and it could end up making things much worse than it already is...

Anyhow, hopefully your life isn't too terrible, but for me, I do as the last answer I read says, "register to vote independent."
