Hello,
I am looking for a great book, that would amke an even greater movie. I'm not really into the scifi genre, so those books won't help me, unless they have a great twist or something along those lines. What I am looking for is something along the lines of a Beautiful Mind, Gladiator, Titantic, or a book worth getting Best Picture at the Oscars.

Thank You

JG

Interesting question. How about "Night" by Elie Wiesel - deals with The Holocaust through the eyes of a young Jewish boy.

Hi,
I imagine that 'The book Thief' will be made into a movie in the not to distant future. Along historical fiction lines 'Lorna Doone' has never been done well and would make a great movie in the genre of Rob Roy and Braveheart. Also Edgar Allan Poe's 'Dupin'
mysteries would be fun to do, either in three movies or as a television serialization. Along the lines of Poirot. For interesting female representation perhaps Kate Chopin's 'The Awakening'
would have great 'STAR' parts and character actor parts. It would also be interesting to do John Mcgahern's 'Memoir'. Hope you do one.

As they always seem to omit features, I can't say that I have seen a film that is better than the book; this also continues on into theatre; for example in Les Misérables, so much is omitted for the production (ex. Gavroche's relationship to the Thernadiérs) True, the only instance could be considered novelizations; but what is worse is a book, of a film, of a book; where you are better off buying the D*rn first book!

Check out "Angelhair" by Joseph Noga. The book is a thriller and when combined with the followup book "Until Then" the story grows. A movie easily unfolds in the readers minds as the reading continues. If you want a free preview of both books go to the authors website www.joenoga.com Hey, check it out and tell me if this isn't a movie just waiting and begging to be made.

Considering the world's penchant for GREENING our society,
I highly recommend the 1975 Utopian classic
(taught in most college/university classes):

ECOTOPIA, by Ernest Callenbach.

Someone has already got the 'rights' to this book,
(and apparently Drew Barrymore was going to be involved)
but have failed to move forward with anything ... YET!

With the RIGHT producer, director and cast this film could easily garner a minimum of 5 Academy Awards.

I am not sure if there is a book, but the story of the gang the vice lords in chicago would make a great movie.

they went from a thugish gang to a community outreach gang. later the leaders were takendown, and they claim it was done by the city government.

I saw a news segmeant in school years back and always thought it would be a great movie.

A Long and Fatal Love Chase by Alcott

The Blue Bottle Club by Stokes (Hollywood might consider it too Christian, though.)

Girl of the Limberlost (the only film version made that i am aware of is a terrible made for tv film done by Wonderworks back in the early 80's)

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (I think it's time for a new and longer version)

the story of Rosa Parks

There are always the classics, but mostof them have already been made into movies..I mean.. this summer theres a Nancy Drew movie comming out! there are already movies for most of the Agatha Christie novels.. those would make awesome movies...You know.. i read a book this summer that would have made a good movie! it was about a little girl and a little boy who were trying to figure out who was sneaking around the woods behind their house at night.. ok.. that sounded lame, but it wasnt!
but i can't remember the name of it for the LIFE of me!

sorry i couldn't help more.

The Thirteenth Tale, by Diane Setterfield. It is spellbinding, and it would not be that difficult to translate to the screen. Most of the story is told in flashbacks, it's an amazing story. Read it and see what you think, I'm not sure there are any plans to adapt it for the screen yet. It might be too scandalous!
