The original was engrossed on parchment which is an animal skin specially treated with lime and stretched to create a strong, long-lasting writing support.
And yes, it is written on animal skin parchment - check the website. It's a .gov so it's reliable.

Yes it was on parchment, but that is not an animal skin. It is a paper and is still made in Williamsburg Virginia the same way the did back in the 1700's.
