Can I hear from women who have had a hysterectomy and how they felt after the surgery? I received some good answers but I would really love to hear from women who have actually gone thru it. Let me hear from you.

OK, I haven't...but I've talked to people who have, and they talk about lots of side effects even after they heal from the surgery (they both had abdominal incisions because theirs were fairly invasive procedures and they couldn't do it laparoscopically.)

They talked about missing the hormones, about feeling incomplete, about feeling like less of a woman. Though they didn't miss the pain that prompted their surgeries, they didn't realize what the trade-off was until it was already there. Also, one had a prolapsed bladder after her hysterectomy, which caused a lot of urinary problems (I think she had to have further surgery, or will have further surgery for that. I can't remember right now.)

If you can get by with a lesser surgery or meds, try that. A hysterectomy should be after other methods have been proven failures. It's not a minor procedure by any means.

I had one, however I didn't have any other options. I did get three opinions. And I investigated every possible option. The attitude from health care professional is one of why keep it. (Because it's mine!)

So far the only issue I have had is that I get bladder infections often. I never got them until after the surgery. Other wise it is very nice not having a cycle every month. I started my period when I was only 8. So I'm happy. I also have experience some incontinence, and that's not cool.

Some women feel that way because it probably doesn't bother them as much as it would bother you. Some women look at it as an opportunity to not have anymore children. I for one look at it as taking your womanhood away from you. I mean it is our right a women to be able to bear children and if you take that away i mean what is there left for you to do as a woman?

So I'm not a woman....but its probably easier for a woman to just get it done than it is for the woman to put up with hearing her man belly-ache about how he doesnt want to get a visectomy. Oh it makes me less of a man....boo hoo.....im a girl. Snip my cords and I might as well have a vagina...boo hoo. These are the same guys that wont even get their friggin dogs neutered......yeah lets listen to Bob Barker shall we.

I wish I could have Hysterectomy, but I can't afford it.

Well nowaday, most women don't care to have babies or have any more babies. We can adopt or just don't have one. And plus, no more menstrual cycle, eek messy. And plus sex with men is terrible. Get rid of the sex organs, PLEASE!!!

Because they are deeply upset about it and they do not want to discuss it in detail as it would hurt them too much.

It is a form of denial that is a very human reaction to traumatic challenges in their lives.

there are good and bad things about it; can't have kids- if you want them it's bad, other than that, no period, no worries of birth control, although you can have hot flashes. It really depends on the persons perdpective they have still in their future.
