Technicallly England is the white land, or Albion, from the colour of the cliffs you see when approaching it from France.

To assist in assessing land quality usually for development and planning puposes, the former Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) developed a method for classifying agricultural land by grade according to the extent to which its physical or chemical characteristics impose long-term limitations on agricultural use for food production.

this system is changing, and it may indicate archeological remains, or environmental ssi status..

White land is referred to as such in America where it is seen as investable farmland or hunting land. Land perhaps for redevelopment too.
