My water broke in public (store)... a lot of water... I was very early too so I panicked. I was only 29 weeks.... he is perfect and 20 months old now. At first I was embarrassed but people were so nice. They were scared for me, I had 2 women start praying over me right away. People were worried about ME and my baby, not the water. Nobody was grossed out, nobody made me feel weird or anything. People were excited because they knew I would have a baby soon and then again they were afraid for me because I was so early. They waited with me until the ambulance came and they called my husband. It was human kind at it's best.

The other times my water broke on the toilet once and the MD had to break it once. You never know when. Don't stress out about it. It can be a lot of water at first or just a trickle for awhile. Every women is different. Good Luck!!

there is no way to tell when it's going to happen. But like someone said earlier only 1 in 10 womens water breaks before they go into the hospital. 9 times out of 10 your water breaks when they break it at the hospital. So don't freak- the chances of it happening to you are slim. My OB gave my sister some advice that if she was in a grocery store and it broke and she was embaressed- to grab a jar of pickles and throw it on the floor and "oops" look what got all over me. hehe. It can be a small trickle or it can be a gush- but it isn't like a flood-- more like you peed your pants.

It can happen at any time, but don't worry to much, most women when their water breaks (I believe about 95%) it comes out like leaking and that is when sitting or standing. Myself I thought that I had just peed myself a little, but then it happened a few more times, in little gushes. When the big gushes of water happens, like in the movies and stuff, it is usually only when lying down, like I said before only about 5% of women whos water break standing or sitting experience a heavy flow and a big mess. Also there is only a small chance your water will actually break before you are in active labor, it is actually not common, I think something like less than 15% of women's water break before labor.

No you don't know and everyone is different as far as the amount.

That was my biggest fear too...lucky for me...my bag never broke...the doctor had to break it. And OMG...there was so much fluid!! I couldn't believe it....and everytime I had a contraction there would be another gush!! (sorry to be gross..lol)

Everyone is different..I had a friend that wasn't due for two weeks break her water in a restaurant just as dinner was being served...

And then there are people like me that are three weeks late and it never breaks..

But let me tell you ...you are going to have so many people all up in your business when the baby is born...the last thing you should worry your pretty little head about is this...

Trust me...I worried about it everyday...and it's silly...there's nothing you can do about it...nothing you can do to stop it...so put it in the back of your mind and just rest up and get ready for baby.

Only 20% of women have their water break. Mine did and it was in the middle of the night after I had just gotten back into bed after a trip to the bathroom. There was a little gush and then it just kept slowly leaking after that. Buy a package of good sized pads and keep them on hand just incase. Amniotic fluid continues to replenish so you will leak until delivery.

Unfortunately no one knows when it will break. It feels like you went to the bathroom.(pee) With me it continued to run down my legs for a little while. Put a pad on if it breaks. It is embarrasing, but all woman go through it. I am sure it will be fine. Dont let it worry you. It is one of those small things in life that are embarrasing. Good luck with the pregnancy.

I had two pregnancies, and niether time did my water break on its own. But when they did break it at the hospital it felt just like i had had to go to the bathroom for a while and waited until it was a gush.. And I would wager about a liter of "water".

First of all it is not like in the movies where you see the woman standing in a big circle of water!.You might feel like you are urinating on you panties and can't stop it.At first it comes out like when you open a faucet but it stops immediately and the flow is very soft.It is pain free and it feels warm.It takes you by surprise that is for sure! Don't feel embarrassed, it is better to have this happen alone than having the doctors do it to induce your labor.Good luck to you!

Your not going to know before your water breaks. Only 1 in 10 womens water breaks on its own. It doesnt have to be alot either if it does happen. My water only broke on its own with my 3rd baby and it was just a trickle of water down my leg. I was at home and in bed when that happened. Dont worry about it. No one is going to judge you if your water breaks in public.

With my first I had one big gush, I was at the hospital, fully dilated.
My second broke over the toilet then I had two more gushes enough to soak a bath towel before I left for the hospital.
Once it is broken you should just go to the hospital, if you out most people will understand
