1. Solve 100 - 97 + 9

First: combine the 1st two numbers...

3 + 9

Sec: combine the result with the last number...

= 12

2. Solve (-3 + 8 - 5) - (-11)

First: combine the numbers in the 1st set of parenthesis...

(5 - 5) - (-11)

(0) - (-11)

Sec: eliminate parenthesis --- distribute the outer sign with the term in parenthesis...

0 + 11

= 11

Change it to 100- (-97) + 9= 100-97=3 as the answer takes the sign of the number with the highest absolute value, in this case 100. Then add 9 to the 3. it equals 12. So 100-97+9=12

In the second one add the -3 to the -5 to get -8. then add it to the +8 because these three are together in parentheses. You are left with 0-11which equals -11

k you do what comes first the subtraction so it would be 100-97=3. 3+9 equals 12
