They are 3 completely opposing and conflicting religions, all terribly against each other and yet they are fundamentally saying the same things (apart from all the different prayers and rituals).

Then don't you think if these 3 different religions are all in some ways saying the same thing.

Please- I was only asking a question , there is no need to start saying that the Bible and Torah unlike the Quran does not tell people to murder and commit terrorist acts, the Quran doesn't say that, its just silly people using Islam as an excuse to carry out sadistic deeds. I swear asking a question about religion on here is like starting WW3. I am only asking about what the books essentailly say.

Don't they all collectively say one of them must be true? Science can't explain everything and many theories of science were from the books.

No because they are basically all the same religion but with minor differences. Judaism was the first of the three... The belief in one all powerful god... Then christianity. The belief in the son of god = the messiah = christ. Then islam which, like judaism, does not see christ as the messiah and is still waiting on their messiah to return... They all believe that christ existed and all believe in the god of abraham... They came from the same background therefore truly they cant be counted as seperate religions... and science has proven against practically all of their beliefs in the creation of the earth and life as we know it...

english is not my mother language and i fail to explain what is in my mind fluently when the subject is quiet serious and needs some tough education and experience, but there are a few important detail that should not be ignored while making a decision, first there is reality that religion has always existed in the history which is a nonignorable evidence that such a pursuit, quest, instance of looking for the answer is naturally present in the human nature, and my idea about this is that it is instinctive becasue of the inadequacy of willpower of human being, for example i did not decide to born and come to earth, there is not any detail decided by my willpower, phsycally, mentally, psychologically etc etc, i have to live and i have to die, there is nothing i can do to change or manupulate my existence, i am totally forced to breath, even i cannot rule my body, if i dont put anything to my mouth my body forces me lto do it, i cannot reject to sleep, when i eat a food i dont decide where the nutritions go, all is done with a system installed in my body without my permision or without asking my comment and we are all forced to look like same in general, basicly we all have to have the same shape, nobody can wish to have a different quality, if we had all wings for example there would not be transportation problem and probably there would not be global pollution, if the decider was science we would have the option to evoluate contuniusly, and at least we would not die, resultantly we are all prisoned in organic structures, i really feel my self caged, i have to obey my body, and my willpower limited, this cannot be explained by the being self created, or evotion from a random combination of a first organism, even if it is considered how those atoms, which combined by chance and generated an organic unit and then evoluated etc etc, existed as a result just looking at myself tells me that there is someone decided my existence, and then i find just religions try to answer these, so first of all a person has to admit the reason of his existence, and than it is the point which religion is the rightone, most of the time historical and logical study is enough to make decision, and the tough discussion starts here, indeed easy,

They are all Abrahamic religions, all based on the same basic ideas, but that does not prove that what is written in any of those books is true. That would be like saying that the different versions of the Snow White story lend credence to the idea that the fairy tale is essentially true. It simply is not.

Science does not derive its knowledge from holy books, and never has. The fact that science cannot explain everything does not detract from its history of explaining things that were once attributed to God. It is not OK to plug God into those things that are not yet understood, as a way of explaining them. That makes a deity nothing more than a "god of the gaps" and the very antithesis of scientific inquiry.

This is one of the ways in which religion impedes society's progress. When a god is used to explain something, research into that particular thing is impeded, if not halted, by those with a vested interest in keeping that thing attributed to their god.

In the beginning, man was lonely - and hated the things he could sink down to, so he created a God in his image. As the god grew in complexity, he attempted to describe all the questions his peers would ask him about this god, and the world with a set of stories.

He could not explain the bones of these great creatures, which had existed, long before he had, so he invented dragons and monsters to justify them.

As his knowledge of the natural world grew, so he amended the story to fit the world he saw, and soon his stories became classic tales, that everybody accepted. And they told his story far and wide.

Problem was that the story was not unique, but one of hundreds of competing stories, all similar. So the followers of each 'theory' would defend it against the followers of other theories. Three of the stories grew very big, and were a kind of Trilogy, but the followers of the first book denied the sequels, and the followers of the second book, tried to wipe out the followers of the other books with holy wars. The followers of the third book tried to convert all to the third book.

In the end, the followers became so blind to the world about them - that when science evolved - and a good theory to explain the world, they clung onto their old superstitions. Many ranting chapter and verse of the good book - rather than using their brains to accept or even judge the new material.

Theory even tried to develop sudo science to make the actual facts seem less important, anything to get back to the old beliefs, as they were starting to feel lonely again. They even tried to invent theories to describe dinosaurs, when they could no longer ignore them!

Truth is what a con man will try to hood wink you with, it’s a word invented by religions. Fact is the scientific equivalent, and unlike truth is not subjective, but can stand on its own, and is supported by physical evidence that does not require a leap of faith.

If I felt that there was any truth to Christianity, Islam or Judaism then I would be Agnostic, not Atheist.

Christianity is infamous for stealing from other religions. Similarities between religions are to be expected.

Note: At one time everyone believed that the earth was the centre of the universe. There were many manuscripts, books, etc that took that for granted and stated it as fact. Science disproved that idea. Just because something is written down does not make it truth.

First they are not so conflicting. They all worship the God of Abraham and they have much common tradition.

Of course, I think that cultures developed over hundreds and some cases thousands of years have some merit to them. To be honest, in terms of wisdom they have much. My main objective in the "exclusivity" clause that comes to different degrees with these faiths.

Science can't explain everything? Well, it depends on whether you think that material world is all there is. I don't know about that but certainly humans have some kinds of a spirtual nature. Is there a physical explaination for it? Probably but I'll still love a good painting even if physics explains where all the colours come from!!!

i don't know the exact number, or who wrote it, but a question i often ask Christians is what is meant by the verse 'Jesus the cause of divide' where it says that people are misled to believe that he came to bring peace to the world and that he will set brother against brother, farther against son etc, if this is the case then today's world could be classed as a fulfilment of that as everyone is at each other, the point of this (i believe) is for people to be able to exhibit or practise love in such adverse circumstance would prove that it were real

i also think science can explain everything its just that we as humans are not good enough scientists yet

hope this helps

What they all collectively say is
"Be a good boy, do as you are told, don't rock the boat. Accept your Lords and Masters are appointed by god, so they can treat you like ****, but you will be rewarded later".

No, I don't think they do.

Because three of the major religions on the planet are similiar, one of them must be true? Is that what you're saying?

If it is, then no.

it does not matter really. The point is moot when all of them revolve around insane scriptured text that pose them all diametrically opposed to one another.
