Yes, 1-5 minute chess is very fast. But it is also the fastest way to get a rating. It is quick and easy and the fastest way to get out of the provisional rating. Some people like it, some don't. I personally think it is too fast. Thanks from another chesslover.

They play 1 minute and 3 minutes games because the Internet is full of cheaters armed with extremely powerful chess engines that play all their moves for them honest outside of a league where they mean business with very strict rules it's impossible to get a game of standard chess without the other player using some form of computer assistance a complete waste of time!

One and Two minute games are called Bullet Games. These are basically played to test your reflexes, how fast of a thought process you have, and how strong your knowledge of opening theory it is. The general rule of thumb is that whoever knows more opening theory wins. Five minute games are Blitz Games. Same concept as Bullet Games but with enough time on the clock to give yourself a few seconds per move to come up with some kind of strategy.

Untimed Games are played by players who don't want to be pressured or under time constraints...they want the option to spend thirty minutes on a move if they have to in order to figure out the correct move.

People who play at faster speeds usually do so to get more games in.People who play untimed games cause they think slower and dont want to be pressured by the clock.
