I am 18 weeks pregnant and we got a black lab puppy about 20 weeks ago. The smell of this dog is so irritating to me, I can barely stand to have him near me. He's a puppy and likes to sit on the sofa with us to watch tv. We bathe him often, but the smell won't go. I don't know what to do. Right now there's snow on the ground here and when he comes back inside from doing his business the smell of dog is so intense. Any suggestions?

We plan to keep the dog. I like him. Don't want to give him away. He's been to the doctor and doesn't have anything that makes him stink. It's just this darn pregnant super sensitive nose. Thanks for your answers. :)

You may be bathing him too often which will release more oils and dander. You could put some Vick's under your nose, you won't be able to smell anything else and it shouldn't harm the baby. Your intensified sense of smell should be gone once the baby is born.
Stick it out, or get rid of the dog until baby is born
Good luck

When you get pregnant certain smells become unbarable. You should have somebody else watch you dog until you give birth because then the smell wont be bad. I was watching a show and in the show the women had to sniff inside the restaraunts to see if she wanted to eat there because some smells she couldnt stand and would feel really badly after.

Smells are going to bother you for awhile. The puppy still needs attention so you cant just lock him up in a room or something. Maybe you can let him stay with a relative for awhile or think about finding him a good home. If isnt fair to you or him if you cant give him attention.

We have puppies right now. I'm 7 wks and I can't stand the smell either! I've just been steering clear or holding my breath when I pet them, then washing my hands after I touch them. Sorry I don't have any better suggestions!

Have someone take care of him until after you have had the baby. The dog is a dog. It's not worth you being miserable the entire pregnancy.

Take him to the vet....a dog shouldn't be stinky. :) I know in pregnancy your smelling senses are intesified, but he may have something going on that you can't see.
