Trust me on this i've tried alot of free anti-virus programs but by far the best is cyber defender. It regulary updates to a new better version and it is so easy to use. The newest version also comes with anti-spyware aswell. It's scans are also very quick and ever since i've installed it my computer has had no problems at all.

try avast totally free updates regularly just register at avast for a years licence at end of year just re register your free again for another year.i use it myself and have found it to be very good as do most of my family+friends
