Pull them out together-just make sure to pull the fan off and take out the radiator first.Seal off the tranny tailshaft to stop fluid loss. If it's a V-8 remove the distributor.Anchor the chain way back to maintain a level lift of this combo and to give you easy manipulation around obsticles. Get a feel for it when it's free of it's mounts before subjecting it to odd angles.1'st timers must do this outside on level ground with no obstructions above or otherwise.L-6's are the heaviest. If in doubt-stop and question.

leave tranny bolted to engine. makes everything much easier to pull out as a whole unit. motor mounts should be on steer axle, or cross member. tranny should have a crossmember at the rear of the tranny. just remove the driveshaft and remove the bolts from motor mounts and the crossmember from tranny and it should come right out besides all the electrical stuff.

I like to pull them as a unit makes life eaiser and you dont have to have a tranny jack.

pulling the grill and core support makes this operation a lot eaiser and also makes it eaiser to clean and detail the engine compartment.

watch the radiator support and firewall. have a plug in the tailshaft hsng or you'll have tranny fluid everywhere. you have to have a tilter chain cause its tilted pretty good pulling it out as one but sure beats pulling all those bell hsng bolts and flywhell bolts

It's actually easier when you separate them, less chance of hangups or accidentally causing damage to you r car when removing them. Also some engine hoists can't handle the extra weight of the trans.

Leave them together, but use one of those hangers that allows you to rotate the assembly while on the hoist.
