alternative energy source? seeing wicking water happens by itself with no outside help

I think that the process of wicking could not happen on a large enough scale to produce enough energy. You'd need a constant downward flow of water, but the wicking against gravity is much slower. The area needed would make the process impractical.

If enough water is involved, why not?
