I feel like, if I know I want to have children in my life, that I can't start going to medical school at age 30?? Because I won't get done until I am about 37 and isn't that late to start having children for health reasons of the baby?

Also, we have been trying to get pregnant for a year now. So, even though I want to become a doctor, I do feel the pull that maybe if we are having trouble getting pregnant now, that we really won't be able to in 7 years, when I would finish med school.

I had my kids at 35 and 38...Kids are fine, doing well...but I did go through a lot of testing with the second one just to make sure everything was fine. Both of my sister in laws had kids at 39 and everything came out fine!! One of my best friends has started medical school at age 39, she has completed 2 years and it doing well...had kids already. So to answer your question if you really want both of these things, you will find a way to do it. Don't give up on what you want to do...you don't want to look back on it all someday and say shoulda coulda woulda...go for it!

I'm 38 and pregnant with my first. More and more these days, women over 35 and even over 40 are having babies. I work at a medical school and often see medical students having children part way through and continuing the year after. I'm not sure what circulum the school you would go to is like but the place I work, is a 3year med school which you can take leaves and continue with the next year's class.

Well it's never late for anything, but Im not a Doctor, but I have heard that the having children after 40 it's sort of Risky, I guess you would have to balance out what is it that you really want the most or what would make you bring you the most joy.

Wow that's a tough decision. But many women have babies in their 40s and then sometime it's to late (depends on your body). I'd say go for med school (if that's your dream) -- you can always adopt children.

Lots of women are having babies later in life, age 40 plus...what a great occupation you are choosing. If you are healthy and eat healthy before and during your pregnancy the chances of having a child with hydrocephalus/spina bifida, or Downs decreases

I don't think it's too late, to go to medical school at 30. I think you just have to have your priorities straight. Balance your studies, then career with your family life. If you think you can handle it go for it. As long as you are healthy, enough for pregnancy why not??

so compromise with yourself....become a nurse, thats 4 years of school, get pregnant your last year half way through, if thats an option. As a dr you wouldnt have time for a kid anyhow.

After age 35, it is generally risky to have children. That being said, if you have a strong enough support system there is no reason you couldn't do both.
