I already have my B.A. in Political Science along with many state required Educational courses. What next? A Masters' in Ed? This question pertains to teaching in the state of IL. Thank You!

It's my understanding that you would need at least a Masters in your field, Political Science in your case.

Professorships generally require at least master's degree in that field not one in education. That way you've proven that you have content knowledge needed for the classes. If you had a masters in education, you would know how to teach but not the content need for other subjects such as history, political science, chemistry, etc. I do not know if Illinois has specific guidelines, but here the university makes that decision and will have the information on their websites or with their Human Relations department. There are tons of people out there with PhDs and no jobs so they are turning to community colleges -There are even more people with EdDs.

You may want to rethink your career goals.

I needed a Bachelors, and experience in my field.

I think it depends on the state and college district.
