Just about any guy who wants to ask a girl out on a date has gone through the classic approach/avoidance conflict. You want to go out with the girl (approach) but you're afraid of rejection (avoidance). That's why you get all that dialling the number but hanging up before it rings stuff.

Or, after you reach a certain age, it's how you feel about pizza. You really want to eat a whole bunch (approach) but you know it's gonna give you heartburn (avoidance).

Would you like an extreme case. The goal was survival and the repulsive part was the physical violence needed to achieve it. The goal was obtained. People got hurt. But as always, happiness is a warm gun. Because if it is warm in your hand that means it is all over and you are still alive.
