Maybe not at a certain age.

Maybe after they have taught for a certain number of years it is time for them to step aside.

No, unless something is preventing them from teaching as well as they did before. I have younger professors, and while I still am getting a quality education, I notice that they don't have all the tricks up their sleeves that the older professors do. Older profs know what works, how students learn their material, and so on. What they should do is have younger scholars work with the older professors until they can take the older ones place, then they'll have some of the wisdom and tricks.

No. I've never been a fan of mandatory retirement ages. If the person is able to do the job, and wants to, I'd say it would be foolish to force them to retire just because they are older.

No. A lot of the professors that I found to be more intelligent, dedicated and just better at teaching were the older ones.

Life's competitive, if you're not good enough to make it in your profession you should try harder. It's not about age, it's about knowledge and ability.

I think that profs should do whatever they want. If they still want to teach let them, you will learn more. I dont think they should be forced to retire at stay in college just to teach if thats what you are looking for. Good luck finding what your looking for.

No. It takes years to develop the expertise that many of these older profs have. Why kick them out prematurely?

No. And remember, you may one day be one of those older profs. Don't think you'd like it if you got canned simply because someone was younger than you.

No, not unless they have Alzheimer's disease. :)
