You have several options. Do you wish to create an .exe file or a PDF file? Know that .exe files are limited to the PCs and cannot be downloaded or viewed by MAC's, whereas, PDF files can be viewed by anyone with the PDF Reader, and are more popular since they reach a wider audience.

I have put a few Ebooks together for clients, and they sell them from their websites. If interested, you can contact me from my website at http://www.dironwebdesign.com

If you wish to put together your own, then I would suggest that you create your Ebook in a Word document. Make sure that you use the Bookmarks, and Style sheets so that you can create your TOC once it's completed.

To create a really good PDF file where all the enhancements and securities are in place, check out: PDF995 here (it's free) http://www.pdf995.com/, and you can utilize all the options once you download and set it all up. Only know that with the free version, you will get some ads that popup, but if you can ignore them, you'll still be able to have a great working program that will provide you with what you want.

Good luck,

You can create a PDF format file from varius formats of file at http://www.pdfonline.com/

Alternatively - you can download primo for free at : http://www.primopdf.com/ ... with this when you chose print you can specify to print to a new PDF file rather than a printer.
