You don't need to use a database for a customer to download an ebook after they pay if you want to use PayPal....you would set up your PayNow PayPal link and have them sent immediately to your "Thank You" page where you would put the link to the download file once they pay for it. It's easy to setup. PayPal now accepts most all credit cards, and now people do not have to have an account in order to pay.

Go into your PayPal account, and click on the "Merchant Services" tab at the top. In the first section is an area "PayPal Website Payments Standard", click on "Learn More", read that, and then go to the "Next Step..Website Payments Standard: Technical Overview", go down to "Scenario 3, click on "Integrate Now" and read all the information there. You shouldn't have a tough time doing this, as it's very easy to understand. Use Paypal's IPN process. I use it on all my e-commerce websites. Works like a charm. You'll need a database and some programming knowlege though.
