I am currently majoring in accounting, which I love! I also enjoy economics, is it possible to get a degree in both and is it beneficial?

What is the recommended career path to become an accountant?

Hey kiddo, accounting can be lots of fun! Yes you can major in both accounting and economics at the same time. The down side is that you must be prepared to put up with at lot of crap jobs before you find your niche and can put your book knowledge into practical applications.
Sure the dummies will tell you that it's just the same thing over and over day after day, month after month, but before I retired, I managed to put 3 people, that I know of, in jail. Just by doing bank reconciliations. There were two others that were "maybe's". but I got them anyway. Contact me, and I'll tell you what they did -- too long a story to tell about in here.
