I have a 3.5 IDE hard drive which is has windows XP on and all my programs and music etc are on a SATA drive which is plugged into the motherboard. If I unplug the SATA drive and reinstall windows on my IDE will I be able to plug my SATA drive straight back in and still have all my music etc. I know the programs will have to be reinstalled its just music and photos and videos I am concerned about.

you can do this, but without unhooking the sata. you'll make the sata the slave drive , with the ide the master. once you have done this, pop in the cd and go ahead and run the setup program.

Why go thru with the unplugging, and plugging.
when it comes up to reformat, just tell it the drive with the OS.
