A CPU is a computer's brain (central processing unit). CPU usage is how much of the "brain" is being used up by all the things you have the computer thinking about/doing.

cpu usage means how much of your Central or Computer Processing Unit is presently using. It can only handle so much at one time, such as a home telephone line can only handle so many phones. It basically means that you can only open or run so many programmes and proccesses at one time - otherwise it will finally not let another process or prgramme open or start until you shut something else off or down.
