Welcome! Hopefully you'll enjoy many years of following the NFL.

Where do you live? Maybe you could add that on, welcome aboard!

2 good choices for classic teams known for their defense are the Chicago Bears and Pittsburgh Steelers

1) Both play outdoors in nothern cities. You need tough players with good defenses to take advantage of the cold weather.
2) Both represent great cities (especially Chicago)
3) Both have passionate fans who love their team, win or lose
4) Both have great history. The Bears won many NFL Championship games before there was a Super Bowl and the Pittsburgh Steelers have won 5 Super Bowls
5) They do not play in a domed stadium!

Other good choices
1) Denver Broncos
2) Kansas City Chiefs
3) Washington Redskins
4) New York Giants
5) Green Bay Packers (play in smallest city, most passionate fans, most famous stadium)

Stay away from
1) Cleveland Browns (great fans but tortured history)
2) Detroit Lions (bad all around)

Once again, enjoy the NFL!

PS: The Pro Bowl (all-star game) is in Hawaii this Sunday

The Chargers, Bears, and Ravens have the three best defenses in the league. However, to hop board with them now would be considered Bandwagoning, and you would be shunned by many football fans. Steelers also (usually) have a good defense, but they are possibly the most hated team in the NFL.

I would recommend picking a hometown team to support. I live in Maryland, but since I was born in the South, I have justification to root for the Carolina Panthers. They are a nice, quirky, fun team, and it's good to be able to root for someone different than the average Joe around here.

If you don't have a hometown team, or if you were born in your current residence and don't want to be normal, then just get a list of NFL teams and pick a city that you like, or one that has sentimental value. If you have family in one city, or if your g/f was from a certain city, or even if you just went to a city and had a good time, pick their team.

Whoever you pick, though, make sure to ALWAYS have a reason ready for why you like them, or you will be dismissed or ridiculed.

you are just me a few years back. i saw a great defensive game and i was in awe of defenses. and since then i've been a great supporter of great defenses.

now there are many kinds of defensive teams that i can recommend:
Historically the Chicago Bears have had great defenses, and all kinds of defenses. (mostly for their ability to strip the ball)
The New England Patriots has a great Pass Disruption Defense, often causing alot of balls getting kocked down (and so does the chargers, but to a lesser degree, it is pretty exciting however, but it really is a defense that is not properly equipped...their secondary is very faulty, and it doesn't look very fun for San Diego once they figure that out...look at what the Bengals did)
The Baltimore Ravens has a great Pass Containment Defense, which in turn gets alot of interceptions. Denver Broncos fall into this category too
Pittsburgh Steelers have a blitzing almost all the time defense, which results in alot of hits to RBs and QB sacks (mostly pass and run disruption)
Minnesota Viking actually have a great Run Stop defense (by using big guys up front to clog holes...not very exciting however)

Really it depends on what kind of style you like. do you like watching Defenses Tear apart the QB? or the RB? do you like them hitting really hard or do you like to see their speedy guys pick off teams. the Colts tend to use small guys that run around alot real fast, or the Steelers who like Big, Physical guys that like to knock people around. figure out what kind of style you like then look at the list i made above, or you can just watch more football and if you see a football team that does stuff that fits the things that you like, then go with that one.

If your the type who likes abuse, pick the Seahawks. No other team will drag you along through a season only to falter at the end like them. Any Seattle team for that matter, have the most wins ever in the history of baseball, lose in the playoffs. Have the best record in the NBA, be the first number one seed to lose to an 8 seed. Trust me, its awesome.

Watch some games, choose a favorite player, and go from there. If you want to get a free lesson to what real NFL players should act and play like, than watch my man Brett Favre on the Green Bay Packers.

It really depends on your interest in the game and what you like. However, if you are interested is following a team you might be able to see locally a lot, the Jacksonville Jaguars have signed a deal to play four consecutive years at Wembley beginning in October of 2013. The Jaguars are a terrible team right now, though...

New Orleans Saints are making a comeback after all the disruption the past few years. So support them. Walter Payton will lead them to the Super Bowl next year.

you should go with the san diego chargers. they have a pretty good defense and shawn merriman is very explosive and on offense you have the best weapon in the NFL in Ladainian Tomlinson, also they have one of the best TEs, Antonio Gates. pick the chargers.
