My Brother wants to go to the navy but his girlfriend just had his baby and now the navy won't take him unless he shows some type of document that he is paying child support for my nephew. Well first of all he doesn't have a job. The reason he wants to go to the navy is so he CAN support the baby. What document do they need? And if it's child support docs that we have to file, what forms? Does anyone know? I tried to search online but there were so many for Family Law and Child support. Please help. Thanks!

the navy recruiter should be more than willing to tell him exactly what he needs.....call them....or post in military

He will need to contact the state office that regulates and monitors child support. In most, it is the Attorney General, but may not always be the case. They will have all the forms he needs, and then some more. They will determine what he should pay based on the entry level salary he will be earning in the navy. They will get him all set up, and then he will have what he needs. The navy will garnish his check automatically ever two weeks for the child support.

The Navy is just being careful that all this taken care of before he leaves for boot. To be served and summoned to court does not work well when you are in boot camp or deployed. By insuring this matter is taken care of beforehand, they are just making everything else easier.

Also, there are some people who "run" into the military, and it makes it hard on the other parent as far as getting these matters resolved.

Yeah, I'll bet he wants to join up so he can pay child support... I'll bet just the opposite is true... Bet he thought he could run from his responsibilites by "joining up".

Sorry - Not only will the Navy see that he makes the payments, they will take it out of his pay before he gets the check.

If he is paying child support, he will have cancelled checks, a court support order or other legal document showing proof. Bet he can't provide any, can he. And - not having a job doesn't excuse him from paying child support...he has the responsibility regardless... Not payng child support puts him in the category of "deadbeat dad" and sooner or later the Law will catch up with him. He will pay one way or the other.

Yes that is a big issue with the military. If he wasn't and isn't married to her, but he is claiming the child is his, then he will have to pay child support for it, (if they aren't living together) because the military will take that out of his check... if they are living together as a family, then he shouldn't need any type of child support documents.. if he is serious about going to the military then call the recruiter back and tell him he needs more info about these forms. Best of luck!

I wish DH was home to answer this because he'd likely know. He needs to talk to his recruiter to see exactly what documentation they need. The other side of this is that if the child is his, once he joins the child has rights to insurance, medical care, some base shopping access... The military needs to know about the details for a lot more reasons than just the support payments.

Not really sure whats the quickest way to do this. You may be able to contact your local child support collection agency for assistance or you may actually have to go to court for help.Set up a checking account for the sole purpose of assisting mom and baby and keep all cancelled checks or money orders paid to her. Good luck and really good luck in the Navy
