Some of these youths are simply doing what they perceive as rebelling. Being gay is now socially acceptable enough to be something you can rebel with, but still piss off your parents.

actually I've seen a 7 year old who could make dinner in the oven.

Were are parents at these days.
And it's not always a decision, either they are or they aren't

Medical advancements are awesome, maybe you should cross the threshold intop the 21st century.

When a baby is born the xy cromisones spilt. Well in Gay and transgendered, sometimes they don't split COMPLETELY. and though your body has decided your gender, your mind has not.
Well with the Gays, it's mucfh of the same, their body has decided their gender, and by physics, their sexual preferance, but their mind's xy hasn't split.

So actually it's not a choice. a 9th grader is more intuative as to what sexual preferance they like, rather thatn career goals at 14. After all that IS when a teen starts dating

You don't decide for one thing. And a person can know from a young age. I knew I was bisexual in 7th grade and now am in college and have had sex with both sexes and still consider myself bisexual, so obviously it wasn't just a phase.

(And sort of off topic, but people in 9th and 10th grade are around 14-16 years old typically and that's definitely old enough to make dinner in an oven.)

Some are probably doing it for the shock value. That's what kids that age do. Others are clear that they are gay. I didn't know anything about homosexuality when I was that age, but I knew that boys and their bodies and their selves fascinated me in a way that girls just didn't, no matter how close I was to some girls in High School. Being gay or straight is ultimately not about whom you sleep with, it's about who you are and who you love.

I'm 56 years old, but looking back, I can say that by about age 14 I had the facts that would have led me to say that I was gay. Still am. Happily married to the same guy for 25 years.

It's mystifying, isn't it? Kids today have far more exposure to alternative lifestyles (radio, television, movies, the Internet) and the topic of homosexuality is a much more open and talked-about topic than it was 40 years ago. The acceptance of the GLBT community has grown immensely over the years. Why shouldn't kids be more sexually aware with all these influences?

are you gay? how can you know what it feels to be gay if you yourself are not gay? i mean yea they probably don't know how to do **** at their age but still they have a right to decide their sexual orientation no matter how old they are. if they know they are gay they shouldn't be discriminated at any age in their life. and what better way to decide what you like men or women than the age of puberty. you get to know yourself and know what you want for the future. the only problem with those kids is that do they know the difference between love or lust with the same sex or different sex partners you know what i mean? that is the problem.

I've seen11 and 12 year olds on here claiming to be gay, have boyfriends and girlfriends, and all sorts of drama. Quite frankly, if its real, I'm wondering what the heck is wrong with the parents today? You know, the bulk of which are heterosexual and vigilantly fighting for family values.

And you know they aren't gay, how? And yet you know, and have always known, that you are straight. You can't grant them the same self-knowledge, the same courtesy? How special of you.

People don't decide that they "want" to be gay or straight. They discover what they are (despite people like you telling them that they aren't), some sooner, some later, most always by their teens when puberty and hormones kick in and sex starts to have meaning for them.

You don't DECIDE to be gay, bi or straight. You are born with it and kids can figure it out at a young age.

I didn't KNOW I was bi when I was younger, but thinking back on... the way I acted and played with dolls. My female dolls kissed the men and the other female dolls. My stuffed dolls were females with masculine voices.

Now at age 19 I'm quite sure I am, indeed, a female bisexual and that it was apparent when I was a child.

Highschool is when most people start dating and often times become sexually active, how is that not the perfect time to realise your sexuality?

Also I know people in highschool who can actually do both of the things you stated. I know a guy who can outcook anyone.

It's because of the current culture, kids even younger than 15 are coming out and experimenting openly. A lot of these kids are just curious and confused they aren't really gay or bi.
