I don't have a poem in mind, but do you know what the different types of sentences are that you are looking for?

Complex = a sentence with an independent clause (that can stand alone as a sentence) and a dependent clause (that cannot stand alone as a sentence).
EXAMPLE: Although the rain had stopped, (dependent clause) there were big puddles of water on the ground. (independent clause)

Compound Complex = a sentence with TWO independent clauses (which is a compound sentence) and a complex sentence as explained above.
EXAMPLE: There were big puddles of water on the ground, (independent clause) and the trees were heavy with moisture (another independent clause linked by "and") although the rain had stopped (dependent clause) and the sun was shining. (independent clause)

Simple = a sentence made up of one independent clause.
EXAMPLE: There were big puddles of water on the ground.

Compound = a sentence with two independent clauses linked by "and" or "but"
EXAMPLE: There were big puddles of water on the ground, (independent clause) and the trees were heavy with moisture. (independent clause)

Hope this helps. Good luck!
