The police are obligated to come see what the dispute is about, no matter what. I didn't see the case and some of your facts sound twisted or worded improperly in your itemization.
HOWEVER, it was a waste of tax payer dollars for the father to call the police when there was no apparent danger or truly stolen property. (by law a parent owns their child and everything their child has in posession, thus even crimes committed by teens are owned by parents!) The mother is absolutely in the right. The daughter sounds like a spoiled brat and the father doesn't care because he's not the one that has to deal with her.The daughter probably has been in quite a bit of trouble or questionable behaviour and the mother is excersizing her rights as a parent. The father sounds immature for not realizing parenting isn't about getting back at your ex-wife through your children.

WHATEVER!!! People who have to much time on their hands watch this kid of crap. Come on if you think about how stupid it sounds that the mother took away her daughters cell phone and then the father has to call the cops to BREAK DOWN the FRONT DOOR is pretty childish to me. And so what if Judge Judy advised the lady to sue the cops, this is America we can do just about anything within legal limits!!!!
GROW UP AND GET A LIFE!!!!!

what, no way i'm so with you on this one i can't believe judge judy actually said that, i mean of course he should have called the police, cause the exwife could have said that he done something horrible and he would be in so much crap for nothing, plus he was off duty he didn't have the right to act as a police officer himself so he was just another citizen and a normal citizen would have called the police. The ex wife should be gettting sued for stealing the daughter's phone.

Judge judy was 100% right, she dismissed the case, but said the lady should sue police department. Retrieving cellphone was a civil matter and officer shouldn't have gotten involved.
(you are right that cops have a duty to protect everyone, but in this case, no one was at danger, it was a pure civil matter)

I watched this show 'cause I love Judge Judy...and she was 100% right. That guy is an idiot and used his police buddies to throw their weight around and terrorize that woman.
He is a troublemaker and, I think, a violent man. I hopes she sues the socks off the police department and wins.

Judge Judy is just arrogant and does not know everything. Even though she thinks she does. I think she needs a judge judging what she does in the courtroom. She is so rude and cold and calculating and uncaring.
The Mother had no right to slam the door in his face. What was he supposed to do - kick it down. He did the right thing in calling the police. Judge Judy was dead wrong.

well for starters. the mother had no right to take the cell phone off the daughter as it was brought for her from her father.....it was a gift of sorts......some ppl tend to be on "power trips" and like to bully ppl. this woman is one of them. i pitty the poor girl for having such a mother and the husband for marrying her. but yes he did the right thing calling the police to supervise the situation......we watch judge judy here in australia and sometimes she is wrong, but she too thinks she is "god-like" sometimes.
