In England a piercing in only your right ear traditionally indicates you are gay.

Nowadays (the 2000's) the type or location of a piercing does not indicate anything beyond body art/modification and self-expression. With all due respect to colera667:
In the 1960's, if you were a man and pierced your right ear, it signified your opposition to the Viet Nam war.
In the 1970's - 80's, if you were a man and pierced your right ear, it signified that you were homosexual. However, this distinction began to blur in the mid- to late 80's as the punk movement began to grow in the U.S.
Oh and in the 1600 - 1800's, it meant you were a pirate. Arrrr!

When I was in college in the 90s, the rule to live by was "left is right, right is wrong" meaning, of course, the right ear was the wrong ear to get pierced if you were straight...as it might signify to others that you were gay.
While I'm not sure that everyone knows/follows that anymore, you can avoid the aggravation of a misunderstanding by piercing the left one.
(I'm also reminded of the Chris Rock song "No Sex in the Champagne Room" : IF you meet a girl with a tongue ring/ that mean's she'll suck your d*ck / IF you meet a guy with a tongue ring...that means he'll suck your d*ck..." So I guess in the end, right or wrong, it's all about perception and how the others in the circles you run--work, school, and home--will perceive things.)

Traditionally the left ear means str8 and the right ear means gay. But in today's culture, piercings really don't mean anything anymore. People will pierced anything they can stick a needle through. LOL

Lots of rumors, no truth. If you are gay, your piercings are gay. If you are straight, your piercings are straight.
Worry about infections instead, and things called keltoid tissue buildup. Think of a piercing as a lottry ticket, where first prize is a $6,000 medical bill and a really ugly scar. Most people don't "win". Once in a while someone does.

the person wearing the piercing. if the person is gay then its a gay piercing and if that person is straight then its a straight piercing.
there is no specific thing that says if one is straight or gay other than the person him/her self. just because you have a piercing in one ear DOES NOT mean your gay. if your straight then dont worry about it. if someone calls it gay then they are an idiot for thinking like that.

Its not a particular place you can get pierced that automatically makes you gay, but there are places you can get pierced that in my opinion is considered gay. Like a guy with a belly ring, or nipple piercing. That just looks gay. And a woman with a tongue pierced. It might not mean its gay, but it is SEXY AS HELL!!

For a girl, I don't think there is such a think as gay piercing. But if a boy/man wore an earring on his right ear, that would mean that he was gay.

back some years ago, the idea floating around was "left is right, right is wrong." however, since then, it has changed, and, personally, I think that there are so many piercings in so many places, there is no gay/straight/ piercings.
BTW, piercings, not for me, but can look great on someone else.

There used to be a convention about that, I think it was the left ear was a way of showing that you were gay, but not any more. Left ear, right ear, both ears, both nipples, nose, lips, tongue, it doesn't mean anything these days, just fashion (and a show of tolerance for pain and discomfort!).
