I have a 01 Yamaha Yzf600r and I was just wondering how often I should start it up during the winter, if at all? I did put stabil in it, so would it be alright?

If you used the correct amount of Stabil you will be alright. My Harley normally sits on the engine stand from mid November till mid April. That is five months. I always put Stabil in and top off the tank to the maximum to prevent the tank from rusting on the inside. This is after I have run the engine long enough to be certain the Stabil has gotten into the carburetor. It has started right up in April with no problems and I have not needed to rebuild the carb as yet. The bike will be seven years old in April so the Stabil has proven itself six times!!! I use that in all of my cars, gas cans, lawnmowers, weedwhackers, chainsaws that might not get used a lot. It protects the carburetors and prevents rust.

I don't start my Harley in the winter because each time it cools off it draws moisture. So, it just sits there like a big hibernating beast waiting for spring.

Keep a trickle charger on the battery that has an auto shutoff so the battery will stay healthy too. Mine still has the original battery but I think I will buy a new one this spring just to be on the side of caution.....

As long as you put stabil in your bike and ran it through your carb you should be good to go.

Othe things make sure battery is disconnected and stored in a climate controlled place, & bike tires are not sitting on cement for prolong periods of time.

hi, when i sit my bike up for longer than 2 weeks,I ALWAYS, drain the fuel. then run the engine to burn off the remaining fuel in the carbs, then dis-connect the battery,(over the winter)i drain the coolant too, and cover the bike in the garage. then that way when it comes to the spring just add fresh fuel and coolant. change my oil filter, oil , spark plugs and air filter, oh and charge my battery. then im set up untill summer.. and if i feel realy fussy i flush my brake fluid and pads..good luck and ride safe..regards steve..

START YOUR BIKE ONCE A MONTH WHILE IN STORAGE FOR BEST RESULTS.
