I think the definition I have of popular, is being known by many people for things done great in your life. Having many friends that you communicate with on a regular basis may be considered as popular as well.

I guess if you put the word "popular" in a sentence, it might be easier to tell the meaing. I believe it is an indication of how much you are liked. Here are a couple of examples:

"That girl at our school is really popular with everyone." That is an indication that she is very well liked. Or, how about... "The President of the United States is not very popular." Over 50% of American voters disapprove with his military tactics.

Well, there's popular, and than there's popular, like in Mexico, there's the villa- the house high on the hill- and the villa- the ghetto.
Popular either means someone everyone likes because the person speaks kindly and equally to everyone,
or popular means the one who has all the goods and all the mean, snotty attitude to go with it- someone no one actually wants to be.

I see marriage as a religious belief that is between a man and a woman, of any race. However, if a gay or lesbian couple want a civil union, that will be legally seen as a marriage, then I'm all for that. That should also be extended to anyone, gay or straight, who wants to be "married" but does not want the religious aspect.

my definition:

being popular is about having the highest status, being in the the 'in crowd' where you are what the 'out crowd' wish they could be. Most of the time, the people like the superficial you, and not the real you, so you are liked for what you have not who you are.
