Does anyone know which military action Iraq is more closer to? Vietnam was different in many ways. Primarily US involvement was started to help the French maintain control of their colony. The public was told that communism would take over the whole region if we did not get involved.

Hitler's Russian front..

A war that was completely unnecessary drained the country's resources on a useless war. Bled away the brightest and the best in military. We should be fighting in Afghanistan with a full force. We control a small fraction of Afghanistan right now. There are a lot of countries that are harboring our enemies and are just laughing at us bleed slowly in Iraq.

There is no analogy to be made, two entirely different wars! Our involvement had nothing to do with the French, and lastly communism did take over the whole country!

I would say the Spanish-American War. Spain was in decline, America engaged in a war of Territorial expansion. The war was triggered by the sinking of the USS Maine, which Spain has nothing to do with.

One more thing to think about, we paid taxes to pay for the Spanish American War until last year.

The analogy is valid as far as how the press is trying to influence the outcome of the war by urging withdrawal prior to completing the victory - just as they did in Viet Nam.

No Commies in Iraq. But the contractors who got rich are the same...in Vietnam, it was Brown and Root. Today Brown and Root had their name change to Haliburton. True, Look it up. Things to make you say hmmmmmmm.

How about the U.S. involvement in the Phillpines (circa Spanish American war)...brutal occupation...fanatical insurgency... untenable military policy...hostile population... unclear political objectives...
