As living beings, we all work on different frequencies. When we die, we just don't cease to exist, our souls, or essences emit a very high, or extremely low vibration, which is documented during the recording of EVP's. Take comfort in the fact that your loved ones are attempting to contact you. More than likely, you are hearing past conversations, but it is entirely possible that they are trying to tell you something. I would suggest that you tape record these experiences on HD tape, and play them back with the volume turned all of the way up. You should hear words, or even phrases from your loved ones. Do not be afraid, they are family, and have strong ties to you, since you are part of their surviving family. Consider yourself lucky, for them to want to send you a message from the after life.

He might be trying to get your attention about something. Don't worry about the "code", just concentrate on your feelings and the sensations produced. You will no doubt get some kind of answer soon if it is really important.
